I have always felt close to the Savior near the sea.

Growing up on the West Coast, some of my earliest experiences of feeling that Christ was truly near came while walking along sandy shores as a teenager—thinking, praying, and quietly feeling as though He walked beside me. Perhaps that is why I return to the sea so often in my paintings.

In Where Heaven Meets the Sea, Christ is not teaching or performing a miracle. He is simply there. Crouched at the water’s edge, He reaches His hand into the gentle waves, quietly taking in the beauty of creation.

I have often thought that if I can love the ocean so deeply, surely the One who created it must love it too.

There is something sacred in simply noticing what God has made—in touching the water, watching the waves, and being fully present in the beauty around us.

The sea has always been a place where I feel Him near. Perhaps all of creation, when we truly stop to see it, can become a place where we find Him.
