I painted She Reached during a time when someone I loved dearly had been suffering for years. I wanted to create something that could hold onto hope when healing seemed so long in coming.
I thought of the woman in the New Testament who had suffered for twelve years. She did not ask the Savior to stop. She simply reached through the crowd, believing that if she could only touch the hem of His garment, she could be healed.
And He knew she had reached for Him.
Sometimes healing comes quickly. Sometimes we plead and wait for years. And sometimes the answer looks different from what we imagined. But her story reminds me that however long the waiting has been, we can still reach toward Christ.
This painting began with someone I loved, but its message has always felt much larger: whatever we are carrying, wherever we are on our journey, Christ is near enough to reach for.
She reached. And He knew.
