The image for this painting came to me upon waking one morning—Christ surrounded by an abundance of flowers, color, and life.
He stands among them with a shepherd’s staff in His hand, both Shepherd and Creator, surrounded by the beauty of all He has made. There is something tender in that thought: the same Savior who watches over His creation with such care also watches over each one of us.
Behind Him, light forms a quiet halo—a reminder of the majesty of the risen and exalted Christ. And yet He is pictured here surrounded in His creation.
There is so much beauty in this world. Flowers seem to me like one of God’s most joyful expressions—extravagant in their beauty, given in endless varieties of color, fragrance, and form.
Perhaps this beautiful world is, in so many ways, His garden. He is its Creator and its Shepherd, and everywhere around us are reminders of His beauty, abundance, and care.
